Simple Indian Chicken Curry

Ingredients

Ingredients for the chicken marination

  • 1 cup Curd
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 500 gms Chicken

Ingredients for the curry paste

  • 2 large Onion (roghly chopped)
  • 1 large Tomatoes (roughly chopped)
  • 1 tsp Ginger (roughly chopped)
  • 6-8 cloves Garlic
  • 2-3 Green chilies

Ingredients for the chicken curry

  • 500 gms Chicken (boneless and cubed)
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Prepared curry paste
  • Marinated chicken
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 3 tsp Chicken masala
  • As per Salt
  • For garnish Coriander leaves (chopped)

Instructions

  • Marinate the chicken using the ingredients mentioned under marination. Keep it aside for at least 15 minutes.
    1 cup Curd, 1 tsp Turmeric powder, 1 tsp Salt, 1 tsp Red chili powder, 500 gms Chicken
  • Next, prepare the curry paste by blending the ingredients into a smooth paste.
    2 large Onion (roghly chopped), 1 large Tomatoes (roughly chopped), 1 tsp Ginger (roughly chopped), 6-8 cloves Garlic, 2-3 Green chilies
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.

  • Next, add the marinated chicken and saute for 8-10 minutes.
    500 gms Chicken (boneless and cubed), Marinated chicken
  • Add the curry paste next and mix well. Saute for 3-4 minutes.

  • Next, add the spices and mix well. Saute for 2-3 minutes.
    1 tsp Turmeric powder, 1 tsp Red chili powder, 3 tsp Chicken masala, As per Salt
  • Once the chicken looks 90% done, add two cups of water and mix well. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes or until the chicken is completely cooked.
  • Adjust salt and mix well.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed ice or warm rotis.

Notes

  • For the chicken to absorb the flavors better, rest the marinated chicken for 1 hour if you have the time.
  • Adjust the consistency of the gravy as per your preference.
